After a great day off yesterday, I did an hour long run today in the awesome weather! I only wore a t-shirt and shorts, it was almost like the good ol' days in SG. Legs are still a bit sore and worn out from the weekend, but not the worst I've ever had. Lifted afterwards, as usual. (K 471.2)

Did some strides with Sam at the fieldhouse later in the evening. The hard surface wasn't so great on my shin, but other than that they felt good.

Warmed up and stuff, then did a 48 minute tempo at 7:00/mi pace. There was the nastiest crap in the sky for the whole thing! We just called it acid rain. But it got speckles all over me and dirty and didn't feel good to breathe. However, the run itself went a lot better than I was expecting. I only got tired on the uphill sections and even those weren't that bad. Average pace per mile was 6:49 and we were trying to slow down for most of it. Hahaha. Then I cooled down to the engineering computer lab. Then it rained. And now it's SNOWING! Wtf? I hate the bipolar weather. It was in the fifties yesterday! Good thing I'm going to be in sunny St. George come Friday! (DS 152.4)

Not too bad out, just did an hour around town before weights. In weights, I almost died. We did more than we've done before and it was really hard. I feel like a wimp. (K 478.7)

Did 45 minutes of 400s @ GP 78-84 before class. 7 am - so early! Hehehe. Was feeling pretty dang sore from weights, so the repeats didn't go so well. Plus I did the repeats on the outdoor track of which about 1/3 was covered in ice and/or snow. The ice was ok (because of spikes) but the snow sucked. Anyway, I ended up doing 17 reps. Two less than last time, but oh well. I finished. Times were: 82, 79, 80, 79, 77, 78, 78, 79, 78, 79, 79, 80, 80, 79, 80, 80 and 76. Done and done. Dead and dead. Now, on to Spring Break!!! Had the hardest time getting out the door today. I'm in Farmington, NM with Gene, Gretchen and their kids and I'm so dang sore! Plus, it was super windy and a little chillier than I was expecting. So I didn't want to go out and have to wear a jacket. Pout. I finally dragged myself out the door and got in an hour of running. I know, I know, I was supposed to go at least a half hour more than that, but I just couldn't muster any motivation to go any more. It was a feat that I did as much as I did. Blah. (K 486.5)

Left for the run a little too soon after breakfast, so I was tasting corn flakes and feeling the 5 bowls I'd downed the whole run. Eew. Ran into the wind on the way out in hopes that the speed on the way back would be with the wind and a bit easier. But the wind changed direction a bit before I turned around! So lame. Ran easy on the way out, then on the way back, ran at 3 and gradually sped up until the last half mile or so was at 4.5. It wouldv'e gone a lot better if I hadn't had to stop and heave a couple times. Yucky. (DS 164.5)

Easy run with Holt and the PV track boys. I was once again reminded why running with girls is nearly always infinitely better than running with boys. We did the mosquito trail run, then I added on a grass loop to get in my 45 minutes total. Nice recovery run. Then I did lots of weights, similar to those we did last Thursday and it wore me out. (DS 170.3)

Long tiring run at way too early this morning. Got up and ran with Holt starting at 5:20. Eew. Once I got going, it was worth it to have the company, but man did it ever suck to get going. We started off doing the mall run - first 10 minutes were warmup, then we started on my three 10 minute pushes at 3.5. They went well, not super hard except for the hilly parts. Then AC and a little Costco loop and another AC - on those I did the eight 60 second pushes at 5 and the five 20 second sprints. My right foot started bugging me a bit last night and hurt for the entire run. Hopefully it's just an odd ache that'll go away soon. (K 499)

Easy 45 minutes from the running store by myself - I missed the running club by a couple minutes. Foot was hurting quite a bit, but finally some of those great running endorphins kicked in so it felt almost ok for the last 15 minutes or so. Just ran down to the river trail and back. (DS 175.8)

Ran out on a the industrial road a little, then turned back and started to pick it up gradually until the last 5 minutes were at around 4.5 effort. Foot felt better than yesterday, hopefully this random pain will be all the way gone soon. Still a bit sore from weights and the hard run on Wednesday. Excited to do the 10k tomorrow! It seems like I haven't done a road race in ages, so we'll see how it goes... (DS 181.3)

Awesome race this morning! Didn't know how well I'd end up doing, but I ran pretty fast and had lots of fun. Started off too fast (5:10 for the first mile, I think - yikes) but with that downhill, it's hard not to go so fast! But I probably shouldn't have tried to go with the crazy fast guys I'd warmed up with. Stuck with a couple guys I met during the race for a couple miles in the middle, then tried to sustain my pace up the flatter and uphill parts. I must've left my Garmin on after my run yesterday (it was out of batteries) so I didn't get any splits or even a "real" time. I just looked at the big race clock as I ran by the finish. Before today, I'd never done a race bandit. It wasn't too bad, but it's more fun to actually sign up. So next time I'll just plan ahead and sign up before the late fees apply... or talk Steve into giving me a comp entry. After the race, it was great to talk to so many running friends that I haven't seen in a while! Then I ran up the course to the 3 mile marker and back to get some more miles in and got quite a few "you're going the wrong way"s and "I think you're winning"s as I went. Silly people. (DS 187.8)

Boy am I ever SORE! My calves are absolutely shot and my hamstrings are almost as bad. That race was lots of fun, but the soreness has not been. As a result, today's run was quite terrible. We ran out on the TT course for 35 minutes at 8:00 pace, then ran at GP 6:30-7:00 on the way back. Usually this wouldn't be so bad, but ouch! Both the uphills and the downhills killed my legs and I just felt super out of shape. Add wind and a nasty stomach ache and... voila...we have a perfectly painful run. Yay! Tempo miles were 6:36, 6:43, 6:52, 6:49 and 6:24 pace for the last bit. Not great, but glad it's done and I'm hoping that I won't be so sore tomorrow. And especially the next day. (DS 196.2)

And the soreness strikes again! Got up before class did my hour of running on the 25th loop, legs still pretty dead. Just took it easy and enjoyed the nice weather. I hope it never snows again. (K 506.5)

Thank goodness coach modified today's workout, it was hard enough without another 1600 and two 1000s too! We warmed up 20 minutes, then started on our first of three1600's @ GP 5:56 w/ 3:00 recovery. All of them were 5:55. First was easy, then a bit harder and a bit harder. Not bad all around though. Then we had a 10 minute break, then started on our four 400's @ GP 72 w/ 3:00 recovery. They went well too - 1:12, 1:12, 1:11, 1:10. It was fun, I smiled for most of them and enjoyed feeling free and fast. Then we had a 5 minute break and ended off the workout with a 300 acceleration. Great weather out and a great workout. Iced after. (DS 200.6) (S Spike 4.2)

Oh, and joy-of-joys... I get to run the 5000m at the meet this weekend. Woo hoo, my favorite ever.

Didn't do so well in the race today. I was hoping to run a more consistent 5k than I did at indoor WACs, so I was kind OF frustrated when everybody started off our first 400m at a 1:20. Tried to stick on Kim and the pack ahead of her for most of the middle laps (and got a bit nostalgic when I saw the 8-laps-to-go sign, wishing I was just doing the good ol' 3200m). Calves were pretty stiff and sore for most of it. Bonnie (from the blog, who I randomly met before the race) accused me of sandbagging it, since I had quite a bit left when I suddenly decided to pick it up with 800m to go and my last 300 meters of a kick were pretty fun and fast. Alas, I should've pushed harder in the middle, but I still don't have the feel for a 5k on a track. The next one will be better! (DS 208.7) (S spike 7.3)

Before heading off to watch the rest of the meet today, we went out and ran 80 minutes (out-and-back) on a trail near a wash in Tucson. Felt tired out and calves still sore but I had a good time with the team. Ashley was nice enough to stick with me on the way back when I was feeling a bit sick. At the meet later, I got super sunburned! And then we went swimming. Soon I will be tan! (DS 218.9)

Snowy and gross! Nonetheless, the workout went pretty well. We warmed up for 20:00, then did a 5k @ GP 19:10, 10 minutes break, 6x200s @ GP 33 w/2:00 recovery, 5 minutes break, then 12:00 of 800s @ GP 2:50. The 5k was long, but went well - Vanessa and I stuck pace pretty well and hit a 19:12. Then the 200s - ouch. All of them were 33's, but the last couple got a bit hard. After all those 200s and a break, the 800s took a little adjusting to. Ended up doing reasonably well and got 3 of them in: 2:49, 2:48, 2:47. Cooled down with Ashley and up to the Engineering building. Pretty nice workout today. I hope tomorrow isn't so cold and wet! (DS 222.7) (M spike 85.7)

Got out this morning before the weather got gross, so I'm super happy about it! Went pretty well, just relaxed and did the TT out-an-back. No garmin, just a plain watch to time the hour. Later, I ran down to weights. A bit stiff and sore later in the day. (K 514)

Warmed up to the track and 20 minutes with the team in the wet wet snow. Then we did our oh-so-fun speed workout on the sopping wet/slushy track! Yay! First off we did 20 minutes of 40 seconds at 3.5, then 20 seconds easy around the track. On a couple, I tried jumping some hurdles... I suck. But it was still fun. Then we did 15:00 of 500's @ GP 1:30 (72/400 pace). They were really hard: times were close, but never under GP - 1:33, 1:32, 1:30 and 1:32. After 5 minutes break, we did two 400/200's (400 @ GP 72, 30 seconds rest, then 200 @ GP 36) with a 60 second break between. Ouch! The first one was really pathetic, then they got a bit better. Still really hard though: 75/37 and 73/35.  Drenched and frozen by the time I'd finished - I was absolutely miserable. Ashley and I cooled down around the churches loop after. Warmed up down to the track plus 20:00 with the team. Decided to try doing the steeplechase workout and it went reasonably well, I guess. First we did a 3k with the first 2k at GP 7:40, then the last k a bit quicker and with hurdles. 2k time was 7:42, with 11:15 total for the 3k. We got 10 minutes to rest, then did 3x800 at race effort with one lap over hurdles. I still sucked at the hurdling but they went pretty well: 2:47, 2:45 and 2:44. Then we got 5 minutes then did a 1200 with the first 800 @ GP 3:00 with the last 400 @ GP 72-. The first bit was fine (3:01), then had to go basically hbl to get down to a 72 for the last lap. But I got it! Ash and I cooled down for 20:00 after. Weather was actually reasonably nice... for once.  (DS 241.7) (S spike 11.4)

Speed workout! Warmup, then 3k @ GP 11:30, break, 4x400 @ GP 72 w/3:00 rest, break, 3x500 @ GP 1:30 w/2:00 rest. Times were 11:30, 72, 71, 71, 72, 1:29, 1:31 and 1:32. Mostly, it went really well. The last couple missed the mark a bit, but I gave it everything I had! So, the workout was a success. And killed me dead. (DS 245.7) (S spike 15.2)
